Waters Photographs: Ladakhi Nomads use a large goat skin to make goat milk and butter. This will feed several families in the villages high in the Northern Himalaya.

The Ladakh Nomads have cashmere goats, yaks and sheep. Here is Doma Amo in front of her Yak hair tent. The government has started providing white canvas tents as well, so at some point, there will be no more Yak hair tents.
Each Ladakh family has their own herd. One family member heads out daily with their herd in the early morning hours and spends the whole day out on the rough terrain until they return before dark.
Harvesting the hay is a job for both the young and the elderly. This woman carried a heavy hay bale on her back in the wheat field as she worked in the summer heat.
